Autoskola Kristīne operates in Riga, Salaspils and cities in Latgale: Rēzekne, Daugavpils, Ludza and Preiļi. Presto Driving School offers training throughout Latvia.
Autoskola Kristīne provides training in Latvian and Russian, while Presto Driving School offers training in 3 languages: LV, RUS and ENG.
Theory
Looking at the combined CSDD data for online and in-person theory exams, we see that at Autoskola Kristīne 69,51% percent of students passed the state theory exam on the first attempt. At Presto Driving School the result is higher – 76,49%. The industry average in the country is 67,89%.
Since most students choose to study theory remotely, let us look at video training results separately. Autoskola Kristīne provides its video training through the website macam.lv, and these results are relatively low – 66%. Presto Driving School has its own platform, where the result is 86% (the highest curve).

Driving
Looking at CSDD data for the category B driving exam, 41,51% of students at Autoskola Kristīne passed it on the first attempt. The result at Presto Driving School is 29,85%. The national average is 37,24%.
In AM, A1, A2 and A categories the result of Autoskola Kristīne is 60,00%. Presto’s performance in this category is significantly higher – 29,63%. The national average result is 49,19%.
In categories BE, C, CE, D Autoskola Kristīne does not provide training in Riga and Salaspils, however in Latgale the result in these categories is 100,00%. Presto’s result is 66,67%, and most students take these exams in the dynamic traffic of Riga, which is considerably more difficult. The national average result – 60,39%.
Conclusions
Autoskola Kristīne shows good results in theory classes in person, however remote learning results are not impressive. Driving exam results are also not particularly outstanding. It would certainly not be wise to study category A here, where the result is lower not only than Presto but also below the national average.
When looking at service, we are referring to the level of services included in the price.
The service system at Autoskola Kristīne is not digitized; all transactions must be handled in person, making enrollment more inconvenient and time-consuming. Presto Driving School, on the other hand, offers a fully digital system – registration, contract signing and payments can all be completed remotely without wasting time visiting the office or managing invoices.
A well-developed call center and customer management system allow Presto Driving School to serve students much more efficiently throughout the entire training process. In addition, Presto has created a convenient digital driving lesson management system that allows students to organize their learning independently without constant phone communication. Students choose their instructors themselves and can freely change them – lessons can be booked or cancelled with a single click.
Promotions at Autoskola Kristīne take place constantly. Most often the school offers a free remote theory course. Although Kristīne has acceptable results in in-person theory training, we can conclude that the constant promotional price actually reflects the real value of the service.
Presto Driving School, on the other hand, as a socially responsible driving school supports large Latvian families and educational institutions. It does not run promotions at the expense of your costs and safety. Presto provides its students with a stable value – arguably the best learning content in Latvia and a system designed to master it.
The contract template of Autoskola Kristīne is not available on its website; it can only be reviewed upon personal request or at the moment of signing. Contracts differ between the Riga region and the Latgale region.
The contract of Autoskola Kristīne states that the time allowed to complete theory through remote learning is only 3 months. To extend training, you must pay EUR 25 for each additional 3-month period. It is clear that many students will not be able to complete the theory within such a short time, which creates additional stress about meeting deadlines and also cleverly extracts additional money.
The contract also states that if theory is not completed within 1 year and driving lessons within 3 years, the money deposited for driving lessons will be lost. Therefore, it includes additional risk.
The contract emphasizes twice that the student must inform the driving school about instructor selection and change. Clause 5.9 states that the student pays the instructor for the use of the vehicle and fuel (an interesting wording for paying for driving lessons) for the second 10 lessons, while clause 5.12 states that the money paid to the driving school becomes valid only after a contract is concluded with the instructor. Therefore it can be concluded that there is effectively a student transfer fee to the instructor, which will be discussed further in the Costs section.
Moreover, paying the instructor directly for driving lessons is illegal. It violates Cabinet Regulation No. 358 governing driver training, which states that all payments must be made to the driving school (the instructor is an individual entrepreneur, not the driving school). This creates risks of training cancellation or instructor license revocation.
The conditions included in the Autoskola Kristīne contract border on consumer rights violations. Clause 6.3 states that if the contract is terminated, the theory fee is not refunded, yet the contract does not specify the timeframe in which the course must take place. Therefore, if the service is not used, the consumer should normally be entitled to a refund, but the contract does not provide such an option.
The Presto contract is freely available on the website and can be reviewed at any time. Presto’s contract does not impose such a short time for remote theory learning; the legally established period defined by Cabinet regulations applies – 1 year.
The registration fee at Autoskola Kristīne is EUR 30. The price at Presto Driving School is EUR 20. In addition, it is not possible to conclude the contract remotely at Autoskola Kristīne, which is inconvenient and requires additional time. Considering the contract fee when signing in person, the cost is essentially the same between the schools.
First aid courses at Autoskola Kristīne cost EUR 60, which is EUR 5 more than at Presto, while the medical certificate costs EUR 35, which is EUR 1 more than Presto – a small difference of EUR 6.
At Autoskola Kristīne, the driving deposit is EUR 200 for manual transmission or EUR 225 for automatic transmission, which is EUR 50–75 more than at Presto Driving School. Presto’s initial payment is EUR 150, meaning a lower initial financial burden.
Significant cost differences appear in driving training. As mentioned in the contract analysis section, at Autoskola Kristīne there is effectively a student transfer fee to the instructor. With this approach the school secures its profit, while the instructor must struggle to earn theirs. The EUR 200–225 deposit may be the most expensive in Latvia. In order to recover the amount paid, the instructor may artificially extend driving lessons, meaning you will require more lessons than usual. This can result in an additional EUR 100–300 in costs.
In addition, being tied to a single instructor means waiting for their availability (illness, workload, car repair, etc.). Therefore training may take longer due to practical circumstances.
Furthermore, because remote theory results at the school are weak, you may end up learning theory during driving lessons. This means you will require more lessons overall, spending more time and money. This can be estimated at an additional EUR 90–160.
Presto Driving School has developed an electronic driving system for selecting instructors, encouraging healthy competition. Only competition between instructors for student attention and the ability to vote with your money for service quality ensures fair training conditions and helps avoid excessive costs while saving time. Presto does not charge instructors a fee for students and pays them a fixed amount per lesson.
Based on official state exam statistics, differences in training quality, driving lesson statistics in Riga and Rēzekne, the different organization of driving training and limited practice opportunities at Autoskola Kristīne, it can be concluded that you may overpay from EUR 100 (exam in Rēzekne) up to EUR 400 (exam in Riga) more than at Presto Driving School, while also spending more time.
Reviews on the Autoskola Kristīne website appear to be copied from Facebook. Although this shows that they come from real people, there is no certainty that the reviews have not been edited or selectively chosen to show only positive opinions. In addition, it is not possible to leave a review directly on the website, which is inconvenient. It would have been better if Autoskola Kristīne simply provided the Facebook page where all these reviews can be viewed.
On the Presto Driving School website, reviews can only be written when logged in with a social media account. This ensures truthfulness, credibility and authenticity, and you can verify this by contacting people who have left reviews for the driving school on social networks.
