System of Legal Acts Regulating Road Traffic

The system of legal acts regulating road traffic covers legal acts on road traffic, which impose an obligation not only on vehicle drivers but also on any less-protected road user to know what is described in these legal acts and to comply with the requirements set out therein when participating in road traffic.

The main legal acts taught to learners at a driving school are the Road Traffic Law, the Latvian Administrative Liability Law, the Civil Law, the Criminal Law, the Law on Compulsory Third Party Liability Insurance for Owners of Motor Vehicles (OCTA Law), the Road Traffic Regulations, the basic principles of the penalty point system, regulations on securing loads in carriage by road, regulations and rules on compliance with drivers’ working and rest time requirements, etc.
