Weak teaching of theory, unsatisfactory administration work – unavailable or unfriendly, unfavourable contract, growing costs, disappointing cooperation with the instructor, and no end in sight to the training? If you can’t achieve the desired result, one thing is clear – it's time to change your driving school!
In accordance with the Cabinet Regulation No. 358 regulating the training process, you will not start from scratch, but will continue your training path. Provided that you have already passed the theory exam at the CSDD.
In this article, we will examine two different situations where students decide to change their driving school, will describe the technical process of changing and provide information on costs.
1. If you are not satisfied with the teaching of theory
If you change your driving school to learn the theory in a better program, the process of changing the driving school is as follows:
1) termination of the contract with your current driving school;
2) conclusion of Full Training Contract (theory + driving) with the new driving school.
Do the already completed theory and driving lessons remain?
If you have not yet passed the theory exam at the CSDD, the history of theory and driving lessons does not remain after you change your driving school.
For example, if you attended one theory lesson, you cannot continue learning the theory in the new driving school from the second lesson. You will also have to start learning driving from scratch.
However, the previously acquired knowledge and skills do not disappear. Therefore, you will achieve your goal in a shorter time, without wasting time on what you have already learned.
How much does it cost?
In Presto driving school, the fee for remote registration of documents for new students with the Full Training Contract is EUR 20, in person – EUR 30. For example, Category B in full-time theory training is EUR 60, and in remote training (video training) – EUR 20. To calculate the total costs, we suggest using the cost calculator in the section of the category of interest.
2. If you are not satisfied with the practical training
If you have passed the theory exam at the CSDD but are not satisfied with the practical part, the procedure for changing the driving school is as follows:
1) conclusion of Driving Contract with the new driving school (only includes practical training);
2) termination of the contract with the previous driving school is not mandatory, but it will be respectable to end the previous relationship.
Do the already completed theory and driving lessons remain?
You don’t need to attend the theory training at the new driving school again, and you don’t need to retake the theory exam at the CSDD. You don’t also lose the practical driving lessons you have already attended. Since each lesson is registered with the CSDD, this information is saved and not deleted after changing your driving school.
Satisfaction with the teaching style and communication of the teacher is the basis for a high-quality and enjoyable learning process. If, due to various factors, something “does not work out” with the instructor, in accordance with the Cabinet Regulation, you have the right to freely change the instructor.
Several of the reasons for changing the instructor are: unacceptable habits, smoking during lessons; disinterest in teaching and your progress, instructor is busy with his or her personal affairs during the lesson, thus not fully using the time allotted for the lesson; training is not structured – lesson is more like a fun ride around the city; instructor does not teach, but only gives commands “right, left”; aggressive communication style; dismissive comments; ambiguous statements and even physical harassment.
If instructor believes that you are not ready to take the exam at the CSDD, and you disagree, it is worth getting an objective assessment of your driving skills at another driving school. Delaying your training is only beneficial to the instructor. It is in your interests to choose an instructor who fully prepares you for the exam from the very beginning. When you feel confident, apply for the driving exam at the driving school.
How much does it cost?
Concluding a driving contract with Presto is free. When signing the contract, you pay a deposit of EUR 25, which you can use to book driving lessons.
Financial obligations
To avoid unpleasant surprises, you need to take into account the financial obligations specified by the contract with the driving school. Some driving schools provide for a penalty fee for termination of the contract, or it is called an additional payment for the theory.
If you have not made any advance payments for the services of your driving school that the driving school could retain, then it is up to the particular driving school to decide whether it wants to collect the remaining obligations through legal proceedings. In reality, though, such practice is not popular.
Why choose Presto?
You can no longer memorise the correct exam answers. From 1 June 2024, the number of questions on the CSDD exam will be gradually increased from 400 to 700 questions, and in the test exam on the CSDD website, it will be reduced to 10%. It will provide a visual representation of the exam, but you will see most of the questions on the state exam for the first time. Therefore, the exam results will directly depend on the knowledge acquired in the driving school and the quality of the program.
Since June changes, the performance indicators directly reflecting the quality of theory training in various driving schools have changed accordingly. If we evaluate the overall results (both in full-time and remote learning), as of August 2024, 88.12% pass the Category B theory exam on the first try at Presto driving school. Second behind Presto is Einsteins driving school (87.02%); third – Credo Autoprieks (85.47%); fourth – Mustangs (80.19%); fifth – Gross (78.97%).
In terms of performance of students in the electronic environment, students of Presto driving school passed the Category B theory exams in June 2024 with a performance of 86% – convincingly the highest among all driving schools.
Below is the CSDD Performance Dynamics diagram. It shows the percentage of students who studied on one of the four electronic environment platforms registered in Latvia passing the theory exam at the CSDD on the first try.
Macam.lv is a training platform created by Credo Autoprieks driving school and used by 75% of Latvian driving schools. Mustang is the training platform of Mustangs driving school, which is used by the students of other schools vis autoskolasonline.lv. Edrive is the platform created by Einsteins driving school used by other driving schools via edrive.lv.
Presto driving school video training is exclusively only available at Presto driving school.
Don't fall into the trap! Change your driving school!
Many people don't realise that they are not hostages to the signed contract – starting training at one driving school does not mean that it must be completed there.
To make the change of driving school as positive as possible, we recommend you to read the instructions on how to plan the training process and what added value the Presto driving school program gives.
You can conclude a new training contract on the website in the section of the category of interest. If you have already passed the theory exam at the CSDD at another driving school, conclude the Driving Training Contract, and if you want to learn both theory and practice from the very beginning, conclude the Full Training Contract.
