It may seem that such feelings as lack of confidence or fear affect only new drivers or those that consider themselves unable to ever learn how to drive. However, experienced drivers sometimes also get overwhelmed by doubt and uncertainty, and even fear.
This year's study of CSDD revealed that almost half of Latvian drivers have felt the fear of death when driving! What is the reason for that? There are people that do not feel safe when driving in darkness, some are afraid of driving in winter on icy roads but others get nervous by overtaking at a high speed. But the only way to overcome this fear is… by driving!

No matter how skillful a driver is, one has to always stay alert when driving, and it does not mean just merging into traffic but also taking note of the behavior of other road users in order to be able to predict the possible events on the road and evade dangerous situations.
It is said that to err is human but we definitely do not want to make mistakes when driving. According to statistics, a driver in a city commits between 5 to 15 different mistakes - only within 15 minutes! It demonstrates that new drivers are not the only ones that must improve their driving skills and learning to drive does not end with passing a driving exam.
There are skills that would not hurt to be refreshed or learnt in a better way by almost any driver (No one would mind learning to drive more economically taking into account the rising prices of petrol, for example!).
Some of the most characteristic mistakes are committed even by drivers that have long years of driving experience. Possibly, it is because some of them feel even too confident: the attention and concentration is relaxed, and as a result they are not able to react in a timely manner to dangerous situations.
But new drivers tend to feel insecure and afraid when overtaking, parking, doing a hill start, etc.. However, it can all be improved, and our instructors can help with tips on how to behave in different dangerous situations as well as overcome fear of driving in general.
